Karen McGuiness

Strategic Autism Manager

Karen’s passion is autism and ensuring that autistic people in Cheshire West and Chester are given the tools and support needed to live their best lives. Karen’s passion came from the challenges of supporting her own autistic family members navigate the system and the world. Karen takes many of our 1:1 appointments herself and even if you don’t see her personally, her expertise is utilised in all the Smart Plans our members follow. Her wealth of knowledge is invaluable and the bank of resources we use to support individuals is forever being extended.

As well as running the West Cheshire Autism Hub Service, day to day, Karen can be found reading journal articles, actively advocating for the autistic voice at local strategy meetings, writing training modules, delivering training for both the WC Autism Hub and other local services, and tweeting about autism and the latest research. She can also be found chasing multiple animals around her home, playing the piano and ballroom dancing! Multi-talented.

Karen has been the Chair of the Cheshire West and Chester branch of the National Autistic Society since 2021 and has been a volunteer with them for the last 7 years, supporting autistic individuals and their families. In addition, Karen runs her own small business which provides support and training on autism.

Karen holds a first-class degree and Masters degree in autism from Birmingham University and has a published academic journal article.   She has an enthusiasm for learning and is keen to continue her studies.  She is an ambassador for the Low arousal approach (Studio III) and is exploring avenues for further academic publications in this area. We are pleased as punch that Karen is leading the West Cheshire Autism Hub ship and we know she will always steer us in the right direction.
