SUMMARY:The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Relaxed Performance
DESCRIPTION:Remaining faithful to Mark Haddon’s novel of the same name – which\nreceived no less than 17 literary prizes world-wide – the stage version\nof The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has been\ndelighting audiences around the world since its highly acclaimed debut\nat The National Theatre in 2013. \nMarking the play’s tenth anniversary\, award-winning Ashton Hayes\nTheatre Club is excited to be bringing the full production to its own\naudience. \nAs the play opens\, Christopher\, fifteen years old\, stands beside Mrs\nShears’ dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork\, it is seven\nminutes after midnight\, and Christopher is under suspicion. \nDetermined to discover the real culprit\, he records each fact in the book\nhe is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. \nAlthough the text does not explicitly state that he is on the Autistic\nSpectrum\, Christopher has an extraordinary brain. He is exceptional at\nmaths\, while everyday life presents some barriers. He has never\nventured alone beyond the end of his road; he detests being touched\nand he distrusts strangers. So\, when he falls under suspicion for killing\nhis neighbour’s dog\, it takes him on a journey that upturns his world –\nplayed out in a life-affirming odyssey that explores family relationships\,\nfriendships and what it means to be “different” in a neurotypical world. \nThe play is suitable for ages 11 upwards and has frequently been the\nsubject of Drama and English GCSE and A-level courses.
